Thanks Fadia and Jal for the tip. In wall street journal article  Jay Freeman developer of Cydia says he is now transorming Cydia from the app repository we once knew to a full app store.

The problem is many developers are being locked out of the App Store, cuz their apps are getting rejected or could be a poor app or it could be that Apple wants to make an app just like it, as in the case of Podcaster.

Jay Freeman says his lawyer is ready.

What will Apple do now?

I have bought it just to support Saurik.
Nice touch on the contacts profile.

I was very excited when i heard about the Cydia app store because it weakens Apple’s case about jailbreaking iPhones being illegal; their claims were weak in the first place based on the DMCA (Digital Millenium Copyright Act) which Apple has twisted and misused to maintain a firm grip on their phone. Add to that the Wall Street Journal publishing an article about it, an esteemed and respected publication, and them mentioning 2 startups (as i recall) selling just iPhone aplications.
Apple is now, in my opinion, facing their worst nightmare. They either have to immediately jump on the “unsanctioned stores” and take them to court, or they know its a loss/loss situation and keep objecting and make the most profit from their App store till the new stores gain reputation and they will kill the App store as we all know :)

@ Jal : What is the contacts profile you mentioned ?

i think apple will completely ignore saurik’s store depending on customers who are afraid from everything non-original.

also i am afraid opening such store will make us miss a very good ( free ) iphone player .!! turning into cash investment !

I dont think so ya Ayman, because when Apple announced jailbreaking is “illegal” they mentioned that there are ~1.7 million jailbroken phones. If they ignore Saurik’s store, it’s as if they’re saying “its ok to let such stores operate & profit” , so they have to make an example of the first unofficial store to send a message to all jailbreakers/developers (of course unlocking is a different story and illegal).

But only time will tell, and i’m hoping for the best :o )

@abbas: it is about when viewing your contacts folder, with cyntact you can see their photos on the left handside of each of your contacts ( not a great thing but nice to show off and some changes in your phone) if you open cyntact in cydia and look at the screenshot you will know what I mean.

Looks very very nice Jal, and as u correctly mention not great but cool to show off and 4 eyecandy effect-like coverflow on the phone-which alone gave me a great experience & made it waaay more pleasurable listening to music & flickin through album covers (and for showing off of course *smirk*)..

I’m searching for the facebook/contact app as i type; cant remember cydia or FREE on Appstore ( i use a free iTunes account-no CCard provided to avoid impulsive buys till some worthy app/proper game shows up in that mess of an App Store)

Any members have comments on the facebook/contact app ?? will install it just for kicks & see if faces popping up wen the phone rings is cool & wont get annoying over time !!!

    Thanx Jal for ur reply.
