*update* if you don’t want to jailbreak then open safari from your iPhone and go to http://unlockit.co.nz
If 3G or Edge is not working it means that the APN Settings are probably not updated to match your service provider’s. Some Vodafone users will have trouble setting those APN settings because most of the time firmwares 2.x.x have this option hidden presuming that 3G settings are preset by service providers.
Prerequisites:
- Jailbroken iPhone
- Cydia Installed
Steps:
- Go to Settings>General>Network>, if and only if you can’t find there something called Cellular Data Network continue, otherwise skip to Step 3
- Install APN Fix from Cydia found under Tweaks
- Go to Settings>General>Network>Cellular Data Network
- Enter the APN Settings
Vodafone APN Settings:
- APN: internet.vodafone.net
- Username: internet
- Password: internet
Mobinil APN Settings:
- APN: mobinilweb
- P:
- U:
Tip:
The following settings that you will probably find as defaults does not work…That’s why we need to enter the correct ones found above
If Vodafone or MobiNil Live Aren’t Activated by Carrier
If 3G or Edge still aren’t working, then you probably might not have officially activated them through carrier, so instead of needing to do that, try setting your Data Roaming Options to On, which helps bypass this problem, since it forces the phone to connect to “roaming” facilities such as 3G.
To do that go to your Settings>General>Network and make sure you have both 3G Enabled and Data Roaming set to On.

Not working with my 3gs 16GB framework 3.0.1 non-jailbreak
No internet tethering ,No 3g Icon
(i’m sure from APN settings,enable 3g and roaming, re subscription in roaming to insure that 3g is working on my SIM, Rest network settings BUT not using jailbreak stuff yet )
I’m sure that my SIM supports 3g and i used it to browse the web on my nokia N95
BUT fe3lan, great article and support by Ghalia and others

OK worked fine now with my 3GS framework 3.0.1 non-jailbreak
the site that install my APN setting is :

go to Mobileconfig create >
enter this following info:
1) for Vodafone KHAT (الخط)

APN: internet.vodafone.net
Username:internet
Passwor:internet

2)for Vodafone el Kart (الكارت)
=====================
APN: wap.vodafone.com.eg
Username:wap
Passwor:wap
=====================
*leave visual voicemail blank
*set Enable Tethreing ON
Then GENERATE!
Asking you to install the the configuration ,just accept like mentioned b4.
make sure 3g and roaming is enabled in Settings >General> Network
now just try to enable internet tethering , and enjoy with tethering
ps: it’s very slow

i get new iphone 3gs 32giga from Luxembourg its open to all cariers
but u said here that mobinil and etisalat apn settings are detected automatically
but it didn’t i tried the settings u mentioned here but the same i tried reset warnings
but its the same would u please help me

Hello everyone I’m on Vodafone Free Monthly and I’ve done everything in this tutorial and I now have got the Data IP address to show up in sbsettings which would mean that I can access the internet right….well…no it gives the”cannot open page because it not connected to the internet” error so please if anyone can help please do
BTW I have an iPhone 3G 8GB on 3.1.2 Jailbroken
