Microsoft has announced lately that POP3 technology is now available to Hotmail users in some countries (Egypt is not among them for sure!). However, you can overcome this restriction by changing the country in your hotmail account profile to one of these countries : United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, France, Japan, Spain, Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands (I have tried UK & France). Wait few minutes then add your hotmail settings and check your mail.
How to do this :
- Open Settings.
- Choose Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
- Choose Add account.
- Choose Other.
- Type Your Name, Address (Your Windows Live ID, for example yourname@hotmail.com)
and Password (The password you usually use to sign in to Hotmail or Windows Live) then Tap Save. - When It tells you that you need a windows live hotmail plus subscription, Tap Next then close Settings.
- Open Mail and Check your Hotmail account.
If you’re interested to learn more about Microsoft latest announcement and POP3 check out this video, the speaker is Omar Shahine, lead program manager for Windows Live Hotmail, he is Egyptian btw.

I couldn’t get it to work turns out my account is U.S, anyways I searched for a while and came across this, from windows live mail support
” We request users in other countries not to change their country settings in their profile as this will be based on the combination of the country in their profile and IP of the country that you login with.”
