For the first time since the first iPhone was out, an Unlock was available pre-Jailbreak release! Dev-Team’s YellowSn0w unlock still works with the new firmware, yet Pwnage tools to jailbreak the iPhone or iPod Touch were scarce (Read the earlier feed about that, and what features are added by the upgrade in general, here) until moments ago… So before the release of a jailbreaking tool, you could have upgraded to have a phone working but without all the goodies that come along with jailbreaking, so it was advised to wait until the release of a Pwnage update before doing so. But now the wait is over!

So far the only available method to unlock your 3G iphone (If restricted to a certain carrier- you are locked) was by using the SIM proxy…which is a small SIM shaped circuit that you place just over your SIM card , that tricks the Iphone into believing you are running the authorized SIM, I am using this method to trick my AT&T locked iphone 3G and its working great,,but it has a downside and that I cant upgrade my Baseband firmware (The firmware responsible for the 3G/2G signaling) later than the 2.11.07, If i upgraded to the FULL 2.2 ( baseband 2.48 something) I would have disabled my Proxy SIM and ended up with a very expensive ipod
